Ohau

Ohau is a loop pile rug with a difference. It is tufted using a semi-chunky felted wool core yarn to create a stylish dense rug texture at a 13 mm pile height. The use of our core yarn means you have an inner core colour and a wrapper colour. An endless two colour combinations can be chosen to create the specific colour way of choice. The final stage in the manufacturing process is tip shearing which literally shears the tips of a selection of the loops, partially exposing the core colour. This creates random areas where more concentrated core colour features. The contrast can be subtle or more impactful, depending on your colour choice.

This is one of our popular rug styles as it can be placed in a variety of areas to create a contemporary, rustic or corporate finish for both the residential and commercial sector. The low dense profile of the loop makes this a durable, practical rug finish to furnish any hard flooring and is a fun way to introduce colour in artful way. Ohau is suitable for high-traffic areas such as living, entrance, dining, or foyer.

The style is named after an alpine village in the McKenzie country of the South Island, located on the shores of Lake Ohau. Just as the rain and the wind erode the tips and slopes of the Ben Ohau mountain range, the tip shearing of the luxurious felted yarn creates an eroded effect on the surface of the rug.
