Boulders Bay

Boulders Bay style is a simple but effective way to produce patterns in a more subtle way than traditional colour blocking, although it can be used in conjunction with it. The base colour is tufted first using a singles (fine) NZ wool in a cut pile finish. This background can be one colour or can be made up of 2-3 tonal colours to create an ombre canvas for the pattern. The pattern is created by over tufting the design in a low loop. Multiple colours can be used for the pattern, and this depends on the complexity and style of pattern you wish to create. This method of pattern creation gives a broderie anglaise effect to the plush cut pile finish.

Designs ranging from shapes, plaids, flora, or objects can all be scaled and designed onto your rug to create soft and elusive pattern finish.
